FAQs

What are the benefits of sports massage?

The main aim is to improve the overall condition of the body whether that be increasing mobility, addressing postural problems, releasing tension or restoring range of motion, to psychological effects such as reducing stress and anxiety levels.

Other physical side effects include circulating blood and lymphatic fluids, stretching muscle tissue and breaking down scar tissue.

I don’t do sports, can I still get a massage?

Of course! Overuse injuries can occur in everyday life and can be brought on by the things we do repetitively every day. Whether you sit at a desk all day, walk the dog or clean the house, everyday activities impact your life greatly and can therefore have an effect on the body. The way we carry things, hold things and walk all require our muscles to work, which can sometimes result in aches and pains. I’m here to assist in addressing any discomforts you may have.

Is Sports Massage painful?

This can depend on the symptoms you display. As a general rule, sports massage can be uncomfortable but never going more than a 7/10. Pain can create tension, and the aim with sports massage is to reduce tension. You don’t want to walk away feeling worse than when you arrived. I will always work within your parameters. No person is the same therefore my treatments are tailored specifically for you.

What is a maintenance massage?

This is for an individual who wants to prevent excessive muscle tension build-up. Maybe you’re starting to increase your training, trying something new or just need some TLC. This is a perfect one-stop massage to help prevent any potential future aches and pains.

What should I wear to my massage?

All you need to do is wear clothing you are comfortable in, that will also allow me to examine the affected area. Ideally bring a pair of shorts along as I may need to examine your hips or legs. If you have booked an appointment for ankle or feet injuries, please also bring along the footwear you are active in, such as trainers.

How often should I get a massage?

This is up to each individual. However, if you are training frequently and have goals you wish to achieve I would always suggest fortnightly or monthly to make sure the body is working well. We only have one body, so let’s look after it.

If you are in training for a specific event then you may want to consider having them more frequently and incorporating sports massage into your routine.

For any other queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Covid Precautions?

Due to the current climate, and the nature of my work, I have taken measures to increase our safety to protect us against Covid-19. These include an extensive cleaning procedure between clients. I will no longer be using fabric treatment covers. Instead couch roll will be used, and I will of course be wearing PPE and sanitising all surfaces.

Please only attend an appointment if you are well to do so, and are not displaying any Covid-19 symptoms. As always, if you have any questions, give me a call.
